{"id":385,"date":"2009-11-17T08:57:18","date_gmt":"2009-11-17T13:57:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mainelyquiltsoflove.com\/main\/?page_id=385"},"modified":"2019-01-15T16:21:01","modified_gmt":"2019-01-15T21:21:01","slug":"faq","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.mainelyquiltsoflove.com\/main\/long-arm-quilting-services\/faq\/","title":{"rendered":"FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>What size backing fabric should I send?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>For an E2E quilt, your backing must be at least 8&#8243; larger than the quilt top.\u00a0 In other words, if the quilt top is 50&#8243;x 60&#8243;, then you should send a backing that is approximately 58&#8243;x 68&#8243;.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>For custom quilt, your backing must be 6-8&#8243; larger than the quilt top PER SIDE.\u00a0 In other words, if the quilt top is 50&#8243;x 60&#8243;, then you should send a backing that is<strong> minimum<\/strong> of approximately 62&#8243;x 72&#8243;.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0This is to accommodate a ruler base.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>All excess will be returned to you.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>How should I prepare the backing fabric?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>Your backing may be pieced or it may be one single piece of fabric.\u00a0 Above all, all\u00a0edges must be trimmed equally and it must be square.\u00a0\u00a0 The edges of the backing must be on-grain (ie., no bias edges).\u00a0 When a backing is overly pieced, it can be difficult doing precise fine-quilting, so please limit how detailed the piecing is on the back.\u00a0 Please remove selvages from with pieced seams, as they can pull when the quilt is washed. It is preferred, however, to leave selvages on the outer edges of the backing.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Is there anything I should know before sending my quilt top?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>Your quilt must lay flat AND square\u00a0in order for the quilting not to pucker.\u00a0 A quilt top with excess\u00a0&#8220;puffyness&#8221;, will not always quilt flat.\u00a0 \u00a0Please back-stitch any seams that come to the edges of the quilt as well. \u00a0 The edge of you quilt should not contain any bias-cut piecings.\u00a0 If it does, or if it is a pieced border (ie., many squares), then please stay stitch the quilt perimeter to keep the border seams from pulling open when the quilt is gently stretched on the frame.\u00a0 Clip or remove all threads from the top of the quilt\u00a0 top.\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>How is a thread selected?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>I have many threads to choose from ranging from cottons to polyesters, solids to variagated.\u00a0 If I do not have a particular color thread, it can be obtained.\u00a0 I will choose a thread that will complement your quilt, not allow the quilting to overpower it, while also coordinating with your selected backing.\u00a0 Your suggestions are always welcome too.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>I like a particular pantograph pattern? Can you quilt it?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>Yes, so long as the pattern is commercially available,\u00a0 I can obtain whatever pantograph pattern you like. Please first take a look at the patterns that I routinely use.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>May I send my own batting?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><i>Yes, as long as it is good quality.
