75″x75″

This is my 3rd carpenter’s star quilt. It is constructed with commercial cotton prints and Kaufman silk Radiance fabric, my signature choices. The setting squares of the carpenter’s star are inspired by the painted dot mosaics of Elspeth MacLean. over one thousand dots/circles made from silk are hand appliqued to the squares to create a kaleidoscoping design. The quilting of this piece was started in late 2018 when my dad was ill, and spending considerable time in the hospital. I was unmotivated and as a result the quilt sat for periods while I searched for mojo. During this time I was deep into music from my teen years which to this day, I still love. Hour after hour of Queen songs played in my ears as I dealt with my dad’s passing and completed the quilting. In the outer border, I pay tribute to this passion with the quilted & painted crown and subtle quilting of 35 Queen songs titles. The name, Belladonic Haze, draws from a line in a 1973 song “Keep Yourself Alive”, and aptly described my mood during this challenging time.
